Biography
Born in Genoa (Italy) September 15, 1944, Cardinal Mauro Piacenza was ordained a priest 21 December 1969, graduated in canon law. In the Archdiocese of Genoa has held numerous positions including professor of canon law at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy, Professor of Contemporary Culture at the Institute of Religious Studies, Delegate of the Archbishop for the University and Culture, Judge at the regional diocesan Ecclesiastical Courts, Diocesan Assistant for the Ecclesial Movement of Cultural Commitment, Archbishop’s press officer, Canon of the Cathedral. Since 1990, he served in the Roman Curia. He was Head Office and under-secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy until 13 October 2003 when he was elected Titular Bishop of Vittoriana and President of the Pontifical Commission for Cultural Heritage of the Church, and also the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology. Promoted Archbishop May 7, 2007. Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, October 2010, he was created a Cardinal November 2010.
